12 May 2009 Meeting Minutes

Vice President (Steve Reed) called the meeting to order at 6:37 PM.  8 members present, plus one prospective member.

Minutes from last meeting were not reviewed as they were not available.

Treasurer’s report (Mike Dunn):

            Current balance is $856.22.

Old Business:

+ Cyclefest and Rodeo, 17 May

The National Safety Council holds an annual Cyclefest for young bicycle riders. The Cyclefest will be from 1200-1500 at Chalco Hills.  We have 8 people signed up to help. We reviewed/reiterated President’s e-mail (dated 7 May) which covered an overview of the event, times, food/water, and t-shirt sizes for volunteers.

+ Base Safety Day, 21 May

Due to work schedules and late coordination between us the Base Safety, the mentorship ride was cancelled.  However, the Show and Shine is still on.  Cathy Reed will “man” our booth for the entire timeframe (1000-1400).  Members were encouraged to display their bikes and to be there to assist Cathy and be visible ORA members.

+ Yellow Ribbon Run, 12 Jul

This is a huge event to raise funds for the Friends of the Family Support Center to support/assist deployed troops and their families.  ORA assistance most likely not requested except to support and ride. Registration will start at 8:30 at Warner Cycle, and the main sponsor of the run is Rollin’ Plains MC. This year Strategic Air and Space Museum will not be a stop nor co-sponsor.  RPMC is researching another stop that will maintain a military tie (considering Ft Ashland).  It was mentioned by Steve Reed that historic Ft Atkinson near Blair could be a location to consider.

     + Poker runs

Steve Reed brought up whether we want to hold a poker run again this year. Mike Dunn is going to look up in the book to look for any open dates.  No date determined yet.

New Business:

+ Two members discussed rides that took place supporting the Peace Officers Memorial Dedication in Grand Island, and the Boy Scott Camp Re-dedication in Little Sioux, IA.  Both events were awesome to witness and be a part of.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:16 PM

50/50 was $9 to the winner who was the Treasurer, Mike Dunn.  (It was legit…the prospective member drew the number!!)

Next meeting will be 9 June, 6:30 PM, Rumors Lounge basement meeting room.
