24 Sep 04 Regular membership meeting notes:
The meeting started with introductions of the officers, there were approximately 20 people in attendance, of that the officers present were Assistant Director and Treasurer.
i. Open – (Need Chair)Mentors –SrA Emington (sport bike), Mr. Reed, Lee Goss, TSgt Robert and Janelle Smith, Lt Col’s Westland and Wilhelm, Mr. Carl Brown and SSgt Carr. But we still need more, especially Sport Bike riders.
ii. Open - Photographer – Mr. Brown and Mr. Shawn Qualley. Still could use one or two more.
iii. Open – (Need Chair)Ride Captains – Mr. Brown, Pastor Rordy, Mr. Reed, Barry Wilkinson, Mike Burton, and MSgt Dennis Edwards. We still need a lot more.
i. Open - Membership – Chair - TSgt Scott Spicer. TSgt Miner needs a replacement due to impending PCS.
ii. Open - Fund Raising – Pastor Rordy and Mrs. Westland. Could use a couple more.
i. Open - Not discussed. Motorcycle maintenance training – A possible “service” that could be provided by members for members, perhaps under the mentor program.
ii. Closed - Tour Harley Davidson plant – The H.D. plant in Kansas City had an open house on Sept 11 weekend with demo’s and tours. The event was cancelled for us due to lack of participation. Several members attended the Loess Poker Run and had a good time.
iii. Open - Not discussed. Civilian assistance – The civilian riding population on Offutt does not have the same amount of training/experience as the AD guys, so we would like to help them be better/more experienced riders.
iv. Open – Not discussed. Getting the word out – Mr. Reed created a tri-fold brochure to hand out or post in various locations. Scott Spicer came up with a business card design that was approved, it can be modified with your info and printed out. Other ideas for locations were wing stand-up, Commanders Access Channel, the BX, dealerships, VFW’s and Legion hall’s.
v. Open - Not discussed. Recommendation page – This would be a website page where we can post positive and negative feedback about local dealers and shops. It may even expand to include ride routes and destinations.
vi. Open - Dealer Discounts – This is what we have so far:
1. DSR Powersports located on 13th Street just North of Howard in the Old Market, is providing a 10% discount for ORA members. There were no negative comments made by or even heard by anyone in attendance, good prices and staff. Not a lot of gear in stock but they have a lot of books and know their way around them.
2. The Fundraising Committee asked for a letter from the ORA to assist in getting freebies and dealership support. Mr. Reed said he would create the letterhead and letter.
vii. Open - Not discussed. Safety Brief – Ms. Terry offered to try and form a database of all ACC Fatality briefs on motorcycles for us to use and learn from. The briefs consist of facts only, no names or bases, so they may be published on the website for all to read.
viii. Open – Not discussed. Mentoring – Need to get the ball rolling. It was brought up that Offutt has a mentorship program on base already and that there are several bases with motorcycle mentoring programs underway. We should revisit the mentor bases with Ms. Terry and try to glean some information from their hard work and also see what we can use from our own program. And, TSgt Miner has an Air Force mentorship CONOPS printout that can be reviewed for possible information that could apply to us.
ix. Open – Charter review:
1. Open - “Jointly and severely liable for the finances and obligations of the ORA” – documentation. This statement refers to Article III, Section A. This was addressed back to legal for clarification. The other changes were made and are waiting to be reviewed.
x. Open – Elections: Still need Treasurer and Secretary nominees:
1. The Assistant Director, Shawn Qualley formed an election committee of Barry Wilkinson, Chair, Mike Richards and Mike Burton to administer the election process. Whereby those interested in holding an elected position within the ORA must notify the committee of their intent and provide a Bio. The elections will be held in Nov and the ORA leadership will be determined there.
2. Currently there are two names in the ring, Shawn Qualley for Director and Geoff Heller for Assistant Director. Still need nominee for Secretary.
xi. Closed – Since the most asked question is “When’s the next ride?” The Ride Committee added new members and was tasked to provide a list of rides and they have. (Check the web)
xii. Closed – Steve Reed has contacted a patch maker to get ORA patches made. They are available in various sizes but we are looking at 2” x 3” ovals in Black and White. The following was decided as to how they would be handled:
1. The patches will be purchased by the ORA and given to Active members that have paid their dues.
2. There will be under rockers for Charter members and the year. These will be purchased by the ORA and handed out to Active members that have paid their dues.
The meeting ended at 2030 hrs. The next Regular membership meeting will be 12 October.
DIRECTORS NOTE: This is the deadline to have nominations and bios in for the election! There are only two names in the ring as of now, one for Director and one for the Assistant. The Secretary and Treasurer positions are still available. These are great positions to hold if you are thinking about becoming the Assistant or Director, as they give you an idea of what to expect without the responsibility. Also, it takes very little time to perform their respective duties and is a giant bullet for your annual performance report. If you want to throw your hat in the ring contact BarryL.Wilkinson@offutt.af.mil
Thank you and good riding.
